Growing up, our family had seagrass rugs throughout the house. Fashion – 1, kids and dogs – 0! These rugs in no way made sense for our large active family. Additionally, I hated the feel of these underfoot and to this day wear socks throughout our home. This experience planted a memorable seed.
As a custom rug company, Delos is consistently contacted by designers who are looking for textural flatweaves to be used in areas that are subject to moisture and where cleanability is a must. Common requests include kitchens and breakfast nooks, as well as covered porches and entry areas leading out to pools, marshlands, and the beach.
When PET (Polyethylene) fibers made from recycled water bottles hit the scene, I considered this might be the perfect opportunity to create flatweave textures that work…I mean really work. And, this is how the Natural Talent story began. A natural talent is defined as an inborn skill or innate ability. Similarly, Natural Talent’s four collections not only excel by mimicking the look of wool and being comprised of recycled materials, they are also easy to maintain…all while being “foot-friendly.”
Natural Talent boasts four unique collections: Wanderlust, Reverie, Sensation, and Dreamweaver. Wanderlust to me has universal in appeal, and works for most styling categories. Reverie is a bit edgier with a more modern organic feel. Sensation capitalizes on the ever-present rib, while Dreamweaver has a dimpled appearance with a bit more bounce.
Each collection has five as-is colorway options that pull from the Delos 28-color PET palette or can be re-colored or custom dyed for larger hospitality and commercial projects. The strategy behind the four looks in five different colorways was to create enough options to provide immediate solutions, and save time by skipping the strike-off process. The only remaining decision is specifying shape and size.
So even though I buried this seed forty plus years ago, it eventually found its way to the light of day with a bit of tending. As a result, I am excited to bring the Natural Talent series of four PET flatweave Collections to you February 2021.
