This year has been a whirlwind for humanity. But there is undoubtedly light to be found. While living a slower lifestyle at home, we have dedicated this time to respond inwardly and have become much more aware of our individual journeys and surrounding presence. This space has allowed us to reconnect with our roots and reflect with gratitude. The Heartland Collection, our first designer series created in-house, is based on the trend that embraces our heritage and celebrates the story of connection and intentionality.

The Delos headquarters is nestled in the heart of North Georgia, where the rolling hills of the Appalachian Mountains begin. No other place feels quite like “home.” It seemed appropriate to explore a rug design concept where it all began for our company in 2005. We explored thoughts of ourselves as children growing up on a grandparent’s farmland estate. Our childlike imaginations soared and design-driven ideas for this collection were: What would capture our attention? What sounds would we hear? What textures would we feel? What would we remember?

Fields of Glory, a textural rug design from the collection, is reminiscent of peering through a creaky screen door, looking beyond a wrap-around, front porch and seeing a vast landscape of fields with no end in sight. Box of Remnants is a rug design that nods to exploring a grandmother’s box of random fabrics while learning to sew for the very first time – a memory many of us can relate to and cherish. Other rugs in this series, like Landscape Fade, are more concept based. This particular rug honors the beauty of freshly plowed fields and the labor intensity required for the season of harvest.

Whether through a literal or abstract interpretation, we designed from these types of memories to celebrate the story of connection and roots. Embracing our heritage and telling our individual stories is vital to our personal growth, and we believe that designing a rug, the foundation of the home should be reflective of that journey. At the core, the year 2020 has reminded us that life is about celebrating who you are, what you love, where you have been, and where you are going.
