Delos has the exclusive contract to sell custom rugs in the U.S. made from Aquafil’s 100% regenerated ECONYL® yarn system. This year Aquafil, the parent company that manufactures ECONYL® yarn, is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of ECONYL®. This date marks their launch of creating sustainable fibers, and that makes this year’s show at Neocon extraordinary. ECONYL® will be the showstopper, and Delos rugs made from ECONYL® will be featured there.
Initially, to honor this celebration, Delos got the creative juices flowing to launch a collection featuring the beautifully saturated colors of ECONYL® nylon. It quickly became apparent we would aim to achieve purist designs with a modern European edge, and “edge” is intended figuratively and literally. The result birthed stunning geometrics and modern organic designs that are carved and reflect a stamped appearance.

As we researched what was happening fifty years ago, we discovered the 1950s welcomed the first color negative films for commercial formats. In 1953, color TV was invented, and in 1954 TV dinners were launched by Swanson. The 1950s also welcomed Pop Art to the scene in Britain, and later in the U.S. Pop Art came with an edge. It began as a disruption to dominant approaches to art and culture and traditional views of what art should be. And so, the Technicolor Collection emerged.

One definition of Technicolor is vivid color, and so that is how this collection got its name. Technicolor was the most widely used color process during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Technicolor’s 3-color process became celebrated for its high saturation. Our goal is to inspire designers to leave behind their “50 Shades Of Gray” to create in rich color.

The sky is the only limit to how Technicolor can be manufactured. In our catalog,
each design from the Technicolor Collection will be shown in four ways: 1) as a black and white or grayscale, 2) bold color, 3) a rich neutral, and 4) as a non-standard shape for true “out-of-the- box” thinkers. Delos’ goal is to be more than just a custom rug provider; it is to be a collaborative place for designers and architects to express artistic design with rugs as their medium. We hope you will agree that the Technicolor Collection stands out and entertains yet sports out-of-the-box European sophistication.
